We are thrilled to be able to welcome Martin and Eliza Carthy to our virtual stage at Chester and Chippenham online festival this year. Since their 2014 album The Moral of the Elephant this father-daughter duo have been wowing audiences together and we expect nothing less from them this May.
Both Eliza and Martin are impressive in their own right.
Martin is a legendary ballad singer and guitarist who has influenced a generations of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. For more than 50 years he has been one of folk music’s greater innovators. He is well loved and an enthusiastic folk musician. Past collaborators include Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick and the award-winning Norma Waterson. His impressive catalogue of over 40 albums includes 10 solo efforts.
Eliza Carthy has been twice-nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and is a multiple-award winner at the BBC Radio Two Folk awards. In 2014 she was awarded an MBE for services to folk music. Her 20 year career in folk music is no less impressive than Martin’s. She describes herself as a ‘modern English Musician’ and her music crosses boundaries of genre and style. With countless albums and collaborations under her belt too, she is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and engaging performers of her generation.
Together they will blow your socks off.
