We’d like to introduce you to another of the artists performing at the Chester and Chippenham Folk Festival - Jack Hogsden
Jack is from East Sussex and is well known for his interpretation of the folk songs of Sussex, Surrey, Kent and the surrounding counties. He pairs fingerpicked guitar with his wide vocal range to bring you the songs of the working people. He is also well known for his melodeon skills - both on stage and out and about with @ditchlingmorris. In fact this isn’t the first time Jack has performed at a Chippenham Folk Festival event. There is photographic proof of him dancing on Chippenham High Street with Ditchling!
Now studying Folk and Traditional Music Newcastle University, he is starting to explore new music including songs from the North-East Tradition as you’ll see from the video below. During lockdown he has performed at Towersey Folk Festival, FolkSoc UK, and Celtic Connections. He has also been helping to raise funds for Dont Stop The Music with weekly streams.
We asked Jack what he thinks about the Chester and Chippeham uniting this year:
“The joining of these two wonderful festivals shows how important it is that we, in the folk scene, must work together, especially during these troubling times. With the advances that all in the music industry have had to make, the concept of an online festival is sure to bring some of the best folk, roots, and traditional music to you from the comfort of your own home. As a regular attendee of Chippenham, it is a pleasure to be invited as a performer and, on behalf of all artists involved, our thanks go to all behind the scenes, and importantly, to you for attending and continuing to support the arts and artists we all know and love.”
